All Africa;10th October 2012Eight elephants have been killed in Tsavo National Park in the latest case of ivory poaching. The adult elephants were killed at Bungule village and the area between Rukinga and Taita ranches bordering the Tsavo West National Park last week.
A source who did not want to be named because of the sensitivity of the matter said "there has been an elephant massacre although KWS has been silent on the issue."
The source said four elephants were killed in Rukinga and Taita and two suspects were arrested as they hacked away the tusks, said the source.
In the second incident at Bungule village in Voi, the source said three elephant were speared to death and their task removed. The source said the attacks could have happened simultaneously.
The Star has established that one suspect was on Monday night caught by game scouts from a private conservancy at Kamtonga area in Mwatate and two elephant tusks recovered from him.
