7 elephants killed near Tsavo East in one week

Seven elephants have been killed near Tsavo East last week. The elephants were paoched at Maili Saba just outside the Galana Conservancy on October 11.

The elephants were poached in three separate incidents, with the first two being poached before a further four were killed and tusks removed on Thursday.

Kenya Wildlife Services senior warden of Tsavo East Robert Obrein said two people have been arrested over the incident.

Sixteen elephants have been reportedly poached around the Tsavos in the last two weeks alone.

Star sources confirmed that eight elephants were killed at Bungule village and the area between Rukinga and Taita ranches last week. In another report, the famous orphaned elephant named Selengai was also poached and her tusks removed at Ithumba.

Cites is an international agreement between governments. Its aim is to ensure international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
